It’s very telling that Abdallah Sima’s agent has vocally gone to the press and stated his player wants to make the deal permanent, only two days after Sima had to return to Rangers from the Ivory Coast with a potentially long-term injury.
Rangers now hold all the cards here, and with this massive injury, Sima’s position at Ibrox has significantly-weakened. He no longer can bargain or hold anyone or anything to ransom – his negotiating hand is a lot less than it was, and he wants to stay at Rangers a lot more than he did.
We are being fractionally unfair, he did already say a month or two ago that he was happy, and he dropped a hint or two that staying at Rangers was preferable, but this injury has changed things.
This time, his agent has bigged the boy up, saying how happy he is, and how much he wants to remain a Rangers player.
Because injuries really do change the picture.
When a fit player is in form, they hold all the cards. The club wants them, but they might have options.
Give them an injury, a spell out of the team, and their stock goes down, even despite the ‘we miss xxx player’ or ‘he’d have made the difference here’ etc from fans.
The fact is an injured player isn’t as lucrative as a fit one – and a player with a big market value who gets injured loses some of that value.
Sima’s agent knows this, and is now trying to get his client tied down. Why?
Because he doesn’t want to lose the move if Rangers are to replace him this window, and he doesn’t want to lose Sima’s importance in light of current alternatives shining.
Sima’s hit a slightly tricky predicament here – and after ‘ITK’ reports claimed he was about to secure a big transfer to Rangers for big money, those have gone quiet with this news.
And his agent doesn’t want them to. Because there’s a big cut in it for him.
It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds.
