Philippe Clement has confirmed that everyone in the squad is fit bar Ryan Jack’s doubtfulness, Nico Raskin’s not being ready and Kemar Roofe’s ongoing issues in a fantastic boost for the squad which means that the selection at Rangers’ manager’s disposal is the strongest it’s been for some time.
In a major indication the new style of management from Rangers’ Belgian chief is working on the injury issues, Clement can now call upon almost every member of the squad with Rabbi Matondo fully back training with the group but not quite ready to start every match.
The big issues maybe a few weeks ago were Kemar Roofe, Nico Raskin, Tom Lawrence, and Rabbi Matondo, and Lawrence is most definitely available again while Matondo could start to be introduced as soon as this weekend.
Nico Raskin remains out for another fortnight, and Roofe too will be sidelined from major action for a while yet, while Ryan Jack is 50/50 for the weekend and more will be known over the weekend.
It’s a big boost, even if it’s tainted a little by the poverty of options in midfield, something Clement confirmed is an issue – does he go with another senior player, or give a kid a chance. He will see, he says.
As we said before, we thought we’d have a full healthy quartet in the middle, now the chances are only two of them will be fit, in the form of Lundstram and Cifuentes. Which is a bit of a bummer, truth be told.
Elsewhere however, the squad condition is excellent. All defenders are fit, and all attackers aside Roofe are too, which, as a side note, confirms Ross McCausland came back from international duty unscathed despite that temporary little scare offered us by his country’s FA website.
Which means Clement has a very strong selection at his disposal this weekend.
Good all round.
