Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed at his first proper press conference as boss that Danilo, Todd Cantwell and Ryan Jack are available this weekend, but that Matondo, Jose Cifuentes and Tom Lawrence remain absent.
Speaking before Hibs tomorrow, the boss revealed that all of Danilo, Cantwell and Jack are fit but probably won’t be able from the start, while the wide men Matondo and Lawrence are still unfit and Ecuador midfielder Cifuentes is now unavailable having been injured on international duty.
We have to admit amusement that the second The Mick leaves Rangers, the club gets three players back in Danilo, Jack and Cantwell, which does suggest a little bit of skullduggery in places.
That said, Wales duo Lawrence and Matondo remain out, and Cifuentes is an unwanted addition to the injury list, but the good news seems to be that those three are, in total, all the injuries the club currently has.
Which is overall very good news – while we’d have rather Cifuentes wasn’t injured as well, the total being three is literally outstanding for this club in recent weeks, and may well indeed hint at a lack of desire to play under the ex-boss and an exaggeration of ‘symptoms’ in light of the malaise that enveloped the club under him.
Clement basically has the whole squad to pick from, aside the three mentioned, albeit Steven Davis’ position now is a bit of a mystery, with the midfielder still currently part of the coaching staff and no return to playing in sight.
But it’s definitely good to have Danilo, Cantwell and Jack back for sure and all three are likely to be on the bench.
