It’s now two matches into preseason, and Ibrox Noise is going to blunder into this with our size 12s and try to weigh up as much as we can of what we’ve seen of the new signings. This early into their new careers, can we assess a bit of them?

Why not!

Butland:

Nope, can’t offer anything here. Hasn’t made a single save yet, still settling in, quite vocal but been beaten by 3 goals he could do nothing about. Kicking was decent v Newcastle but a bit hairy v Hamburg. Nothing we can really offer on this guy.

Balogun:

A safe pair of gloves, the Nigerian has been rock-solid and back to what we know of him. He’s extremely strong, and just looks a pro. Early days but this is back to the regular 8/10 Balogun of two seasons ago. 8

Dowell:

Struggled a little v Newcastle but much better v Hamburg, he could be a surprise package. His CV was nothing special, but his performance against the Germans gave some hope. 7

Sima:

Oh this one is looking a turd. We make no bones about it, his CV is dreadful and this is looking a risk that already isn’t paying off. Absolutely zero sign of any life in this, and he just looks miles off it. We hope he picks up but our hopes are not high. Only Matondo is worse at the moment. 3

Lammers:

Very bright v Newcastle, star man actually, not quite as good v Hamburg, but overall thus far lots of signs to work with and fans are relatively impressed. 7

Dessers:

Brief cameo v Hamburg was nowhere near enough to judge him on.

And that’s it, unless we’ve missed someone. Dujon Sterling obviously is yet to kick a ball.

We do hope more work is coming in, because while some of the additions are looking good, we can’t say we’re yet blown away by this transfer window. Fans got excited by Dessers, and it made the window seem better than it was, but at the moment, Rangers don’t look all that much stronger than last season.

Honest reality. So we hope it all comes together much better over the next month.
