4lads have tonight claimed Kieran Dowell is to be the player announcement made on Wednesday at Ibrox, Rangers’ final home match plays out with a lot more drama than usual.

Following a rather poor domestic season, a glut of players are to leave, and those players will be taking their final bows in front of the Govan faithful as the curtain falls on their Ibrox careers, but if the claim from the club media partner is accurate, Dowell will also be unveiled as Michael Beale’s first summer signing.

We’ve been linked with Dowell for some time, but unlike Todd Cantwell, he doesn’t quite have quite the enviable CV of his former Carrow Road team mate, and his value has never been higher than £3M, compared with Cantwell hitting a valuation of around £20M-30M minimum only two years ago.

So while many will point to the success of this particular Norwich signing, it doesn’t mean Dowell automatically will be similar.

It’s a curious addition – he does have half the Premier League appearances Cantwell does, so he is absolutely no slouch, but he’s never had the career exposure of Cantwell and even more strangely more or less plays in the same position.

That said, he is said to have signed on the dotted line so we’ll support the boy as a Ranger, and of course, if he is half as successful as Michael Beale’s first two signings as Rangers manager, he will naturally be a big success.

In fairness to him, a £3M value isn’t terrible – it might not be blatantly higher than squad at Ibrox, but hopefully Dowell can surprise us by wearing the jersey well and showing why Beale wanted him.

For clarity, he has 21 Premier League outings, with a goal and an assist, and is primarily an attacking midfielder. A position that Rangers currently have many options for.

We’ll see if this signing, if it happens, works out.
