Respected Rangers media partner Heart & Hand have today claimed Rangers have NOT made an approach to Hearts over Lawrence Shankland, contradicting the original source Fourth Official. Sort of.
Last night the Fourth Official said:
“Well, I have some news for you all. The rebuild at Rangers is in full force and according to my source, Rangers have made an approach to Hearts for Lawrence Shankland. The enquiry is to ask Hearts what they are willing to let the striker go for as Shankland still has a little over 2 years left in his contract. The striker came over from Belgian club Beerschot after years long saga. He has scored a total of 22 goals in 40 games played and there’s no doubt there’s a real forward there. Hearts paid €500k to get Shankland to Scotland, so there’s no doubt that the Edinburgh side will play hardball here. The club knows that strikers like Shankland are not easy to replace so Rangers will have to pay a decent seven figure to get the deal done in all likelihood.”
Heart and Hand rebutted with:
“Rangers haven’t made an approach for Lawrence Shankland.”
Both of these sources are questionable, but what Ibrox Noise understands is Rangers may have enquired with Lawrence’s agent, rather than directly with Hearts.
Now, the rules of transfers is a little bit of a grey area – any club is allowed to contact a club OR agent outside of the window to get the picture of a player’s availability. They can either be completely knocked back or told the player may be available. But they can’t do more than that. No negotiations, no offers. Anything more than that is tapping them up.
Unless, of course the player is out of contract in 6 months, which, Shankland isn’t.
So while TFO themselves have now updated their exclusive to include that Rangers have denied the approach, they’re taking that info from Heart & Hand who are not Rangers, but are one of the club’s many media partners.
And the leaked info these days is infinitely lower now, even to media partners, than the old days when 4lads used to get tonnes of leaks (they get none now).
So who’s right? If there’s an approach, Rangers are denying it, and the info is leaking from Hearts or Shankland’s agent.
We’ll only know for sure come the summer we suppose.
Seriously folks …we should have signed this lad for £250,000 when he was at Ayr ffs Mc Call told Gerrard to do so . The lad is a player no doubt and one of us but 5 Million or whatever given our finances and poor squad. Really .
