We’re hearing a few murmurs that an unnamed European side is preparing a bid for Glen Kamara, said to be around £10M.
We cannot verify this story as much more than… well… a story, but with 18 months left on his contract, this would be very much akin to Joe Aribo’s exit to Southampton for £6M rising to £10M when he too was in the last 18 months. But in his case, he gave everything to Rangers till the very end even if his performances were fractionally below his best due to that southern interest in him.
Kamara? Hasn’t given much to Rangers for around 18 months now, his last decent displays being Europa League outings now and again but generally his consistency has been mostly poor. He wants his move, and with these reports gaining traction, he may well get it.
With the imminent arrival of Belgium’s Nicolas Raskin being in Kamara’s exact position on the pitch, the Finn is aware extra competition is coming in and his slot is far from assured any more – indeed, he’s been increasingly a fringe player under Michael Beale despite the manager on record as absolutely loving this player and wanting to build around him.
He now clearly knows Kamara doesn’t feel the same, and it’s a case of finding the right club for him and finding an exit which suits Rangers.
This imminent bid, said to be from a big five league side, would be the precise package Kamara seeks to secure the next stage of his career that he really wants, and as long as Rangers get what we want for the player, there’s no reason it can’t happen quickly.
But with four or five days to go of this window, there’s still time yet for twists and changes but this is one deal we’d like to see go through. Very few Rangers fans are in favour of keeping Kamara now, with most recognising he wishes to leave and hasn’t been at the races at Ibrox for a long time.
The sooner a deal is done the better it is for everyone.
Definitely should sell him if that is a genuine offer. There’s a rather annoying culture at the club right now of whenever a player has one or 2 decent displays back to back there is a big clamour for him to stay, especialy if it’s a player who’s been around for years. There’s a sentimental “let’s just keep him he might suddenly become a consistent winner” attitude as if he is just a new player, only been here a year. And an amnesia for the majority of the games in the time he’s been here he has been poor or average.
We are never going to move on and become the dominant team in Scotland unless we move players on for new faces who CAN get us over the line more often than not.
It isn’t as if the Kamaras, the Jacks & the Taverniers etc haven’t had their chance to prove themselves. They are never going to be any better than we’ve aleady seen.
It’s time to move into a new era. Celtic have done so yet their old gaurd were winning everything! We keep our old gaurd around when they aren’t consistent winners, it’s a joke. We are involved in a SPORT here not a charity!
