Rangers’ injury crisis deepens yet further as striker is ruled out till after the World Cup

Rangers have been dealt ‘yet another’ injury blow after Fashion Sakala was ruled out till after the world cup, and potentially 2023.

Added to the ridiculous list which keeps growing of Rangers’ injuries, the Zambian international received a knock on Sunday and is ruled out for the immediate future, in a rare injury case we’re not sure weakens us much at all.

We never want any Rangers player to be injured, but Sakala is the most useless winger/striker we’ve seen in a Light Blue shirt for many years, and we can’t say his absence hurts us aside pure numbers. Because that is an issue now – with he and Kemar Roofe out for the foreseeable it thins our attacking options yet again.

In attack we now have Kent, Wright, Matondo and Tillman, with Alex Lowry said to be ‘fit but out’ of the weekend, for reasons not explained.

That’s it, that’s all we have up top, with a real lack of quality options on the bench, making Rangers’ attack as desperate now as defence. Rangers are having to rely on players who simply haven’t been at it this season, and while Kent’s stats are well-documented, he remains well below his own best.

And in defence we barely have a defender fit these days. Midfield? Pain barrier Lundstram, past it Davis, not interested Kamara. At least Sands is doing ok. It’s literally unreal. Yes Gio isn’t doing the best job, but given what he has to work with, who could actually do any better?

It’s absurd that Rangers are this blighted by injury with every few days a new name being added to the list of players unavailable – it’s only staggering we can even field a functioning XI at all, and if Lundstram or Tavernier, for all the criticism we or others have aimed at them, were to be unable to continue through the injuries they both have, we’d literally be up sh*t creek even worse than we already are.

Another day, another injury. The list is now approaching 15 Rangers players unavailable. Absolutely diabolical and Pep Guardiola would struggle to deal with this squad. So what chance does Giovanni van Bronckhorst have?

  1. Is it not time to be introducing the likes of Robbie Ure and Zak Lovelace? With form and injuries the next transfer window will be arguably our most important since our return to the SPL. Sakala really isn’t working out so you don’t really feel he needs to be rushed back.

  2. Sakala is not the finished article and may never be but I don’t think he merits the names you throw in his direction. At least he is a trier and tries to attack when he has the ball.

  3. What Sakala have you been watching, yes he’s not the finished article but he has pace and goes direct just his finishing and final ball needs work, he was by far MOM v Aberdeen although sponsors gave it to Colak, certainly not worst winger we’ve had and if Kent played with half his effort and enthusiasm and love for the game he’d be a world beater!
