If we would like to thank one man, it’s Erik Botheim, for choosing Salernitana, when Rangers were in for him during the summer, with Antonio Colak only ‘second’ choice as reported.

We explained at the time that there really wasn’t that much to choose between them, with fans upset at Botheim choosing elsewhere and us being ‘stuck’ with the Croatian instead.

See, fans wanted the shiny younger model, the second-only to the sensation that is Erling Haaland as Norway striker, because he had all the potential and Colak was the ‘washed-up’ and unconvincing older model.

Today?

Botheim has netted just once for his new club, deep into the season, in 9 total appearances and that sole goal was the fourth in a demolition at home v Sampdoria.

Colak? He’s scored more goals than Botheim’s played matches, with 11 in 14, a truly staggering and borderline shocking return.

Is Colak, aside the obvious Haaland insanity, one of the most in-form strikers in Europe?

Without any doubt. No one is more prolific that we can see aside Alfie’s son than our Croatian maestro, and it really is a sliding doors moment.

We wanted Botheim, we didn’t get him, we had to ‘settle’

It couldn’t have worked out better.
