Rangers’ Rabbi Matondo missed out on any part of Wales’ loss to Belgium, after national manager Robert Page excluded him and four others from the final 23-man squad to take on Roberto Martinez’ giants.

The winger was hoping to play some part in his national side’s Nation League clash with the heavyweights but was omitted from the matchday squad entirely along with, among others, Jordan James and Wes Burns.

It’s not a huge surprise, Matondo has struggled for minutes and form at Ibrox so far and the call up was a boost for him, but his chances in playing in either match for his country are fairly modest and he’s likely there for experience.

In truth, we’re being a little patronising – Matondo already has many caps for his country, so playing for Wales is nothing new to him.

But there’s something else to be said for Page picking Wayne Hennessey in goal when he doesn’t actually play for his club over Danny Ward who does – and of course Page has history for overlooking certain players and picking others.

So Matondo just needs to bide his time.

Hopefully the lad gets on the bench v Poland on Sunday and gets a chance to kick on both internationally and club wise.

He definitely has plenty to offer. We’ve just not seen too much of it in action yet.
