If one genuine positive did come from last night, it wasn’t on the pitch, but off it, as Rangers fans’ wonderful display for Her Majesty plus the club’s playing of the national anthem in defiance of disgusting UEFA attracted worldwide praise.

Media outlets the globe over highlighted how Rangers ignored the shocking ruling from UEFA to not play the national anthem, and did so, to honour Her Majesty, while the fans displayed an incredible banner in her memory.

We don’t even need to mention the worldwide disgust at what the Parkhead lot did, with global condemnation of their latest disgraceful antics.

No, it’s all about the Rangers and Her Majesty, and while the product on the pitch wasn’t up to scratch, at least the effort was better – and was quite outstanding in the stands as fans held aloft a black portrait of Her Majesty’s profile, while the club showed its respect by playing the national anthem.

No other club did this, no other club showed this level of homage, and while it’s not about point scoring, Rangers as a club and as a support did themselves proud last night, to global accolade.

Pity the other lot had to stain the reputation of Scotland in the Champions League and global media, isn’t it?
