Rangers’ striker search is probably over as Cutrone resurfaces

It’s become apparent that Rangers no longer ‘need’ another striker. Antonio Colak has 2 goals in 4 matches, with both in the last two fixtures as he’s started to connect with the previously ungenerous service, and Alfredo Morelos is eking back to fitness, having gotten more and more minutes in recent fixtures.

Ibrox Noise’s Kevin even proposed starting the pair as a duo, which is something we’re sure Giovanni van Bronckhorst will look into as one of his many options, but in the here and now, thanks to the Colombian’s increasingly rapid return to fitness (he’s still rusty of course) it’s beginning to look like we’re quite well-fitted up front.

Ultimately, we have two strikers – a pure 9 (Colak) and a centre forward 11 (Morelos), and with one of them finding the net at a rate of one in two, and the other regaining precious fitness, it’s a lot less urgent now to find another.

Patrick Cutrone resurfaced today, the out of favour Wolves striker omitted from their opening day match v Leeds, and not through injury. His time in England is at an end and it’s a case now of finding a club willing to take a chance on him.

As a keen follower of his former club Milan, yours truly knows what he can offer, but that was a long time ago and he’s failed at every club since then. Are Rangers the right place? Probably not, but if Gio did have interest in the Italian international then we’d support it all the way.

But we just doubt the club is interested in any striker unless the terms are right and it’s truly believed the player can improve what we have.

Because what we have is a recovering Buffalo and an in-form Colak, not to mention the fringe men Roofe and Sakala.

If any new players are to arrive at Rangers before September it’s under two conditions:

1: A good opportunity, fitting our needs, fitting our budget, and clearly to enhance the team. It was hoped Aaron Ramsey was this but that was a complete fail.

2: Someone leaves and requires replacing. Simple enough, and Gio has suggested that will be the only reason anyone new comes in.

Unless Gio believes Cutrone fits number 1, or the outside chance that Morelos is sold (albeit there is a tonne of speculation over both Roofe and Sakala’s positions at the club) he won’t be coming.

Nor will anyone else.

  1. It’s all about keeping everybody happy. Sakala and Roofe can both go for decent money . This guy might be a 3rd option we need . Let’s see how it plays.
