A nice bonus for Rangers beating Celtic this weekend would be international recalls for Malik Tillman and James Sands, whose national boss Gregg Berhalter will be in attendance at the Meccanodome especially to run the rule over Rangers’ in-form duo.
The two have a handful of caps between them but have had superb seasons at Rangers so far this campaign, with James Sands really winning fans over in the past few matches while attack-minded Tillman had secured their favour pretty much inside his first couple of appearances.
And that form has alerted Berhalter who has a friendly double-header with Japan and Saudi Arabia at the end of September.
The NT boss has spoken highly before, particularly of Sands, and explained Rangers were getting quite a fine talent in the young defender – curiously though, he didn’t pick him again since Sands made the switch from MLS to SPL.
But his prominence the past few months for Gio’s men has certainly shown he’s an evolving, improving and developing player and could well be an asset for his country.
As for Tillman, he has a couple of caps for USA and at just 20 has his whole career ahead of him – he’s made an exceptional start to life at Ibrox and is likely to be signed next summer if the form maintains.
Bringing him in as a squad member next month really is a no-brainer.
Hopefully Rangers will have a couple of regulars again for the USA NT just like the olden days with Reyna, Bocanegra and Edu.
