29th of September 2010 might not be the most obvious date in your minds, but it’s a massive one in the history of Rangers FC.
The night of that day 12 years ago is the last time Rangers won a match over 90 minutes at any level of the Champions League.
That night saw Rangers overcome Bursaspor 1-0 and since then, we’ve played just 3 further matches (in that group) and naturally lost to Malmo in both legs last year.
So tomorrow night’s trip to Belgium has history on its shoulders – to simply win in Belgium itself would be monumental purely on grounds of where we’ve been, but even more tellingly because of the implications of how long (well over 12 years) it’s been since we last did it.
This club has been to hell and back, and stumbled last year at the first crack at the UCL.
But tomorrow Gio has a chance to put it right, and finally earn Rangers our first win in 90 minutes for a generation at this level.
Here’s hoping.
FREE KATIC !! lol.
