Steven Davis is in line to make his European return tonight for Rangers, after an impressive display at Killie in face of disappointing performances from both Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack last week.

The veteran midfielder hit the ground running at Rugby Park, given the chance to run off the cobwebs following an extended absence and period on the fringes, and he thrived on it.

It served to highlight how far off the pace both Kamara and Jack are these days, the former through attitude, the latter through current physical limitations, but 37-yo Davis showed there’s plenty life in the old dog yet and it was probably the best he and John Lundstram have played together.

When Steven Gerrard paired them together last season, it saw the worst of the Englishman, because Davo’s game was hampering his – he was rendered useless and it saw fans on his back calling him a flop.

With no Davo this year, Lunny has thrived, but this was the first time both have played together from the start properly, and it worked a lot better than before.

And it may well be in line to repeat tonight.

We would be very surprised if Steven Davis is not in the starting XI tonight.

  1. He is a Rolls Royce of a player, should definitely start, as Kamara and Jack do not have what it takes anymore and would be delighted to see both of they passengers go before the deadline window closes
