If there’s been one remarkable thing about Rangers’ recruitment and management this season, it’s that we’ve barely noticed the ‘loss’ of either Calvin Bassey or Joe Aribo.

Despite their apparent importance to the side last season, the team has, aside a slightly slow start the first two matches, been absolutely flawless this term with just 3 goals conceded in 5 matches, and two of those being in Belgium.

4 wins from 5 is a pretty imperious start, and few fans have even considered the departed pair in light of those results.

While Ben Davies, John Souttar and Ridvan Yilmaz are hardly settled in and established, nevertheless just 3 goals (including a penalty and a defensive mix up) conceded suggests the backline is already working quite well regardless of who lines up in it.

Plus at the other end Malik Tillman’s impact has completely negated the loss of Aribo, and few fans even remember he played for us already, such has been the American’s performances so far.

But the crucial part isn’t even recruitment, it’s the manager.

Gio’s had a full pre-season to get his ideas worked on, to truly bed his team in and get them working smoothly, and as things motor along 5 matches in, it’s clear the squad is clicking.

This is why having a full preseason is so vital, because the manager gets that prep time they didn’t have before.

And now guys like Tillman are making us forget what we even sold.

Plus we have £33M extra for those sales in the bank while we’re at it. Not bad really.
