Antonio Čolak. Okay, his debut wasn’t sparkling, recording the fewest touches in the first half, and playing out a somewhat quiet day in the office.

However, his goal, unfairly ruled out by the questionable wisdom of the officials on the day, was an inspiring note on the type of player we have acquired in the Croatian.

Over the years, we have become so climatised to the striker style of Alfredo Morelos. Hard working, playmaking and able to pull his weight in other areas of the pitch while chipping in with his fantastic goals. However, like the midfield position of a football pitch, where we see players specialised to different abilities, whether it may be creating goals, or working as an alliance to the defenders when the time comes, striker is not a black and white affair.

Antonio Čolak is a target man, in fact, he defines the very definition of the word. A strong imposing presence in the box who will bide his time and put away the goals when the chance comes.

Yes, his contribution in the first half was minimal, but the power of a ‘target man’ is brought out in his teammates. They will rely on them to put the ball into that area where he will gobble up the chances, and well, if you caught any of the first half in Rangers’ season opener, it was evident that our balls in the box were sup-par, to put it lightly.

The second half was a different story, as Rangers burst into life, and as mentioned, Čolak sent in a perfect header when given the chance. Despite his goal unfairly being given the chop, that’s not to say he won’t still be there in the future to stick away those chances once again!

As a side who have often struggled to grab that crucial goal when the clock is ticking at tough venues, Čolak may turn out to be an unlikely hero with his poaching ability.

0 for the season for now, but you wouldn’t be a fool to believe that Antonio Čolak will be slotting the goals away this season.

Over to you boys, it’s time to feed it to our new frontman.
