3 in 3 – Rangers’ new £2M Croat is looking like a bargain

What Antonio Colak achieved yesterday afternoon cannot be understated. It is the first time since March last year a Rangers player has scored in 3 or more matches in a row, and that was of course Alfredo Morelos.

Many had doubts about the German-born Croat, thinking he simply wasn’t good enough.

They saw his CV and because he wasn’t getting time at PAOK he was rejected.

By many of the same people who reckoned Gio himself was a bad addition too, we’d wager.

But 5 matches into the season, and but for a bad officiating call, Colak would have 4 goals in 5 this season, making him one of Europe’s most in-form strikers.

As it is it’s three, and at present, with 3 goals in the last 3 matches, Colak is 100% in form and certainly on present terms, one of the most hot-streak forwards in European ratings.

We explained when we were signing him, that the two outstanding spells he’d had, in Croatia and Sweden (51 in 90 and 19 in 40) showed that this was a top-quality striker, and with an overall career of 151 in 369, this was a near 1 in 2 striker who was clearly utterly capable.

And would be a top signing for Rangers.

Of course it is early days, it is after all just 5 matches into the season, but with growing numbers of fans demanding we sign Malik Tillman permanently (we’ll get to that) it’s not completely unfair to nod in the Croat’s direction with a hint of praise too.

Give the boy chances and service and he will score.

He has started proving that and finally having a pure 9 who can gobble up loose balls in the box as well as deliberate service is a boon.

Keep it up Antonio.

  1. Excellent performance , totally different to Morelos . He makes different runs and is very mobile . It’s good to have an option of either , against lesser opposition perhaps they could play together. Very happy with Colak .

  2. I laughed when I heard Michael Stewart on Sportscene say that Colak was clearly offside when he scored against St Johnstone. This despite the replay clearly showing the ball wasn’t passed forward. Learn the rules Michael if you’re going to set yourself up as an expert.
