With the blink of an eye, Rangers’ Nigerians are gone
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MAY 21: Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent, Calvin Bassey and Connor Goldson of Rangers pose with the trophy in front of their fans after defeating Hearts 2-0 in extra time during the Scottish Cup Final match between Rangers and Heart of Midlothian at Hampden Park on May 21, 2022 in Glasgow, Scotland. Quite stunningly over the course of 6 weeks Rangers have just shipped out every single Nigerian player, and from having three, we now have none.

One cannot help feeling the freeing of Leon Balogun had a major impact on the decisions of countrymen Joe Aribo and now Calvin Bassey in such quickfire subsequent sales, and all three are gone in the blink of an eye.

From Rangers fans having major interest in Nigerian team sheets, we now have absolutely none, other than a curious eye to see how our ex-players do.

But how very surreal that it took roughly 42 from Leon Balogun’s exit to cause a ripple effect which saw both of his comrades follow suit.

It is probably just pure coincidence, that all the Nigerians left one after another – but it’s left Rangers with a whopping £30M up front in the past 10 days and that sure isn’t bad.

We sold well, we sold players whose time at Rangers had come to an end, and we wish them well.

The Nigerian chapter of Rangers is now closed.

  1. Balogun would be a great back up CB for Rangers if he could only keep fit. Im no to sure about a constant starting 11 as Colak showed hes not champs lge level. But he was good squad player for us when fit. Im sure he will make a good 1st choice CB for an English championship team, or Lge 1 team if he can keep fit. Mabay a gd club for him would be German bundisliga 2 side Kaiserslaughtern. Back in his birth country and a sleeping giant club who have recently woken. I can just about rem us playing them in a Uefa Cup game im sure it was.

  2. Kaiserslauten sleeping giants ?? agree about the sleeping but winning one Bundesliga in over 100 years,no Giants
