As we reported some weeks ago, Rangers are desperate to offload Kemar Roofe, and after Derby put their hat in the ring to take his signature, Sheffield Wednesday have now piped up their interest.

The Jamaica striker’s Rangers journey is as good as over, and if the board can find a club happy to take on a hitman with very impressive stats but a diabolical injury record, the former Leeds man will head south.

The cruelty of this situation is an on-form and fit Roofe has absolutely spectacular stats – 34 goals in 72 appearances for our club, fractionally under one in two, and it includes that ludicrously underrated goal in Belgium which would be repeated constantly on Sky Sports News and other news channels had it been Kane or Messi.

But his injury record is absolutely horrific, given he’s been here since summer 2020 and has only managed those 72 outings.

His injuries weren’t horrendous before he got to Belgium, indeed his three seasons at Elland Road gave us 110 appearances (32, 36, 42), but in the Jupiler he missed half the season through injury.

And at Rangers it’s been the same.

His goal rate remains very, very good – 6 in 13 for Anderlecht is non too shabby either, and indeed since about 2017 Roofe has been a reliable goalscorer for every club he’s played for.

Unfortunately his injury blight, beginning in Belgium, has never let up and he’s missed full seasons through it.

And Rangers have grown weary of it – if we can find a club willing to take a chance on him, he will leave, on loan or otherwise.

At the moment that’s looking like Wednesday but we’ll see.
