It would seem Rangers’ three summer signings, John Souttar, Antonio Colak and the incoming Tom Lawrence are not for squad depth but go straight into the team.

Souttar will be a regular CB for the club, with Bassey and Barisic occupying the other slot, making it a tussle between the three as and when needed (not forgetting those matches where 3 at the back is preferred).

Tom Lawrence might be a LW by trade but being a Wales international and having a pretty solid CV behind him (and the club having no RW at all) he is likely to be a first-team starter, probably swapping around flank duties with Ryan Kent.

And lastly, the big one, Antonio Colak – he’s immediately our first-choice striker, because the other two options are injured. Morelos seems as far away as ever from fitness and Roofe is even worse. So Colak is a starter guaranteed.

So all three additions become mainstays already, which is intriguing.

We can’t swear on our lives that if we look at these three, they scream Hollywood Box Office captures to take us up a level, but we can absolutely say they’re not downgrades. They’re additions, even if none of them sets us on fire with excitement just by their names.

And it’s all about trusting Gio, Roy, Dave and the scouting team that we are getting in the right talent to keep the club going in the right direction.
