The pursuit of Turkey’s Ridvan Yilmaz hotted up today after a compromise was reached over price and terms, and the player confirmed it’s Rangers he wants.

The 21-year Besiktas left back has a market value of around £8.5M+, but press sources claimed the Mediterranean side wanted two thirds of that for a player in the last year of his deal.

It appears Rangers will pay in Euros of €5.5M, which amounts to just over the £4M the club was willing to shell out, but Besiktas will have addons of around a further €1M plus have secured a sellon of a very strong 20%.

So the Turks will get more or less what they wanted, give or take, while Rangers have found a way to pay them a satisfactory amount up front while adding sweeteners to the pot to secure the deal.

What has truly made the difference is the player himself. Yilmaz has pressed for the move to Rangers, and that’s helped both clubs finalise an outcome overall which is agreeable for all parties.

It shows the pull Rangers have that a genuinely lucrative and valuable LB has chosen us over Frankfurt and Tottenham, which displays the work we’re doing this summer and the numbers we now have to spend.

Yilmaz’ arrival will take Rangers’ summer outlay to £12M+ which will be the most a Rangers manager has spent in one summer since the days of Walter Smith’s second spell.

This is serious spending, and on top of the shrewd Bosmans and loans gives Gio a completely new squad to work with, give or take.

Good times ahead.

  2. Agree with Bennyloyal56, we need another LB and this lad fits that well. We also have pay what the potential is for a 21 year old Turkish International too . Looks like a good peice of business expecially if we get CL group football. We also seem to be back filling our squad sell on potential too. I hope Morelos and Kent are influenced to join this part of our revolution .
