Yes, it’s that time again, when once again the spectre of Billy Gilmour raises its head and Ibrox Noise advocates the addition of one of our own in light of his exclusion from Chelsea’s training camp.

In short, the lad’s Chelsea career is over, before it really started.

Something went badly wrong here for Gilmour to not only lose his growing place in the first team, but be farmed away on loan to a diddy side before being completely axed from Chelsea’s training group this summer.

We know fine well how good a player Gilmour has the potential to be, he was starting to eke towards world class a few years ago when he burst onto the PL scene, outshining his Chelsea colleagues and looking every inch a £50M midfielder.

And he’s 100% not in Chelsea’s plans, so rather than it being yet another loan, the lad needs to come north, come home where he belongs, permanently.

If ever it was the right time it’s now – Rangers lack more than one reliable CM/DM.

We have the magnificent Lundstram, but that’s it. Jack is not reliable, Davo’s aging and not what he was, Kamara could be on the move and plays within himself half the time anyway, Kelly isn’t viewed as senior material, and so on and so forth.

Gilmour would be the perfect partner for Lunny now, a composed and classy mid partnering the tubthumbing brilliance of the ex-Sheffield man.

And Rangers could make it happen.

We have money now, we can afford to do this, and we could invest Ryan Kent-levels of expense to get Gilmour back. If he’d even cost that much.

So while it’s Gio’s call, we’d love it if this is one he made.

You know it makes sense…
