Have Rangers just made shock £5M signing?

Have Rangers just made a shock signing for £5M in Romania’s Darius Olaru? The 24 playmaker who plies his trade in his homeland with FSCB is to leave for the above fee, after club president Gigi Becali confirmed a deal has been struck for the reported Rangers target:

“It is about [Darius] Olaru also going elsewhere. I had 5 million euros, but I did not accept. We asked for 7 million euros, but we left it at 6 million euros. I don’t want to talk more, you’ll see.”

So the president has sold Olaru, but is it to Rangers?

The Romanian international, with a market value of around the £5M mark, is currently contracted for another two years, and plays in the slot Rangers maybe could use an experienced head for, in attacking midfield.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has three options there – the indisposed Alex Lowry, Malik Tillman who’s on loan, and utility man Tom Lawrence who isn’t specifically a playmaker.

If an option for a fully-fledged international and high quality AM came up, we suspect Gio would be interested, especially if he’s within club budget and can help enhance things further.

Whether the sale of Olaru is to Rangers we’ll find out soon enough.

  1. For the life of me I will never understand why Goldson was given another contract he goes to sleep, can’t header a ball and always blames everyone else for his mistakes.Barosic is no longer good enough and Kamara and Jack have both lost it.McCrorie proved he has what it takes so he should be No 2 goalkeeper. Very disappointed in Gio with his defensive play.
