Giovanni van Bronckhorst has given Rangers fans the news they all wanted to hear – by confirming Alfredo Morelos is ready to sign a new contract, is positive about it, and it should be done inside a fortnight.
The Colombian striker has just one year to run on his deal, and speculation has been questioning his status, given how frequently linked away he has been as a Rangers player.
But this summer the level of talk about him has been reduced, mainly due to his injury, and it’s been left with him, the board and his agent to sort out a new contract to extend his stay at Ibrox even longer.
It is strongly thought the lure of CL football is key for Morelos, and while Rangers still have some work to do to get there, securing group stage would be massive for the Colombian and be pivotal to him staying.
Of course, we won’t know, theoretically, until late next month whether we’ve done it, for if we do make the playoff stage, we don’t play those till later in August.
So if Morelos is basing it on that achievement, we may be waiting till late August.
But Gio seems to believe it could be done by early next month.
Let’s seriously hope so.
