Gio admits Rangers contract for Aribo failed
He said no thanks... to Mooy....

Further to our earlier piece on Kent and Morelos being offered new deals, we alluded to Joe Aribo’s sale.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has today effectively confirmed the club didn’t offer Aribo a new deal because he wasn’t interested and only wanted the PL.

Speaking again at the club’s camp in the Algarve, the Dutch boss confirmed Aribo’s ambitions of the PL were to test himself at the higher level, and the Nigerian international had no interest whatsoever in signing any new deal at Ibrox, so Rangers didn’t offer one.

Nigerian sources claimed this half a year ago, and we brought it to you, and it turns out they were bang on, and Gio has admitted it.

Not explicitly in words, he never ever does that and never has, but in clever inferring by revealing Aribo’s ambition was the PL and that’s where he wanted to be.

So there was no point offering him new terms, because after initial attempts at negotiating failed, Rangers realised the player was already mentally in the PL.

And that’s about that.

  1. That’s fair enough , I just hope we get a little more ahead of the game withvthe handling of the agents, players etc. But I suppose it’s the same for all big clubs. Onwards 56

  2. If we had carried out our business properly we would’ve sold Aribo a year ago. But we wouldn’t have got much more than the money we expect to get now given that he hadn’t yet had his excellent first half of last season. We also need to consider if we would’ve got to the Europa final or won the Scottish Cup without him. It’s a very difficult situation to handle and it’s difficult to be too critical of anyone. But bottom line we need to smarten up to avoid losing assets like Aribo, and possibly Kent and Morelos, on the cheap. We could easily lose £30m on these 3 players. We must make Kent and Morelos offers they can’t refuse.
