Rangers fans are today eager to see the level of interest in Calvin Bassey proven by whether or not Rangers’ star player features in the friendly at Blackpool this afternoon.

Reports allege the London-based defender has travelled back home for talks with an unstated party, but with Brighton, West Ham and Arsenal all strongly linked to a move for him, it could be any of them.

Reports last night claim Ajax offered £19M (€22.5M) which clearly hasn’t been accepted, and Rangers are well aware the boy’s stock is considerably beyond that.

But we will clearly learn how serious the reports are if Bassey is not involved today for Rangers’ latest friendly.

GVB will have to plan quickly if Bassey does leave, because his exit leaves a massive hole in defence just two weeks before the qualifiers start and league begins, so any replacements will need to come in now.

Brighton are also said to have offered, but just £15M, which is obviously well below the going rate.

Either way, his involvement or otherwise today will be telling.
