Agent update on Niko Katic isn’t good for Rangers man

Niko Katic’s situation at Rangers got muddied a little when his agent confirmed he’s having to stay at Rangers (for now) because no one else has made a suitable offer.

The Croat is not high on the list of priorities for Gio and has been told internally to look at his options, but unfortunately it doesn’t appear at the moment that there are too many for him.

Hadjuk Split are still monitoring the situation and would 100% sign him but they can’t afford the fee of a reported £3M, with the Croats only willing to shell up to a third of that.

But what we find a little curious is Katic is in the final year of his deal now, same as Kent and Morelos, and intriguingly, Aribo was.

Rangers sold Aribo for half of his market value, maybe less, but won’t sell Katic for a third of his even though his market value is around the £1M mark.

We wonder why Rangers are reluctant to ship the defender back to Split permanently.

Katic in truth is likely to go out there on loan again, or somewhere else, winding down his contract till he’s a free agent, because no one is coming in with a big offer for him at the moment.

His stock, unfortunately, is low.

Some fans believe he’s been badly treated by the club, while Golden Boy Goldson has treated the club badly yet is untouchable, with Katic instead on the outside looking in.

And it’s hard to disagree.

The club under Gerrard treated him shockingly for 2 years, before an ACLI compounded his misery, before he again got treated badly in being shipped out on false pretences.

And now he’s back, and Gio isn’t treating him badly – he’s just not his player and he’s not interested in him. That’s his right.

Does he deserve a chance? Probably, but he’s not this manager’s man so we’d argue he’s not going to get one.

What next for Niko Katic…

  1. I re state my previous post. Katic should be kept for squad cover . Hellander is struggling and could be done which is a massive pity. Sands is not a CH . I like the Davies signing, he could be very good. Goldson is still a potential liability, his aloof attitude and continual mistakes are a weakness we don’t need especially in CL qualification and 56. We saw it right in the Europa Final.

    • Agreed mate, keep Katic for cover, mabay he could at least get a chance to prove himself he loves the club.

      • Need to give up on Katic guys. Both Gerrard and GVB have decided he isn’t good enough for Rangers. These guys know a thing or two about football so you have to respect their decision. As for CB we have Goldson, Davies, Souttar, Helander and Sands who has played there for the US. At a push we could throw Lundstram in there and even play Barisic on the left of a 3 in an emergency. I think that’s enough.

  2. I am bit surprised and lost with this one ….did he steal one of directors doughnuts ? IMO best defender at club on his day when fit ,just dont get it .
