We’re not absolutely sure what to make of the sudden bidding war on Alfredo Morelos, with Spanish media claiming Sevilla were in for him, and now Turkish media alleging Besiktas are.
Long story short, both reports are very similar – club is very interested in the Colombian and have ‘started negotiations’, with the hitman in the final year of his deal.
Now, the thing to stress here is Morelos is currently in negotiations with Rangers over a new deal, with, as we understand it, the demand that he is allowed to talk to other clubs also being a haggling issue of a clause to include in any new contract.
And then suddenly there’s two big European clubs making a move for him and offering bids?
There’s no mention of a fee in the Turks’ case, but we will say the reported £7M from Spain is a bit on the low side, even if Morelos is in his final year.
What we will point out is the case of Edouard. He was not only in the final year of his deal, but he was unhappy at Celtic and in bad form, and Celtic STILL got £20M for him.
So any sale Rangers make will have to be in that ballpark, given just how comparable Morelos has been with the Frenchman.
End of the day though, we can’t tell if this is agent work trying to get Morelos the deal with Rangers he wants, or genuine interest in the striker.
All in good time.
