Rangers’ squad is not as bad as some want to think

This is going to sound like the dumbest statement Ibrox Noise has made for some time (and there have been many corkers over the years), but Rangers have some very, very good football players.

What we’re getting at here is that the squad built, admittedly mostly by Steven Gerrard and his management team, is a very, very good one, and the number of assets or international players this club has is extraordinary:

Filip Helander – Sweden.

Borna Barisic – Croatia.

Calvin Bassey – Nigeria.

Ryan Jack – Scotland.

John Souttar – Scotland.

Glen Kamara – Finland.

Joe Aribo – Nigeria.

Alfredo Morelos – Colombia.

Fashion Sakala – Zambia.

Kemar Roofe – Jamaica.

Ianis Hagi – Romania.

Steven Davis – Northern Ireland.

James Sands – USA.

That 13 of the roughly 26-man squad are regulars for their country gives some idea what we already have on our ‘roster’, and the players we have who aren’t close to featuring for their countries are ironically some of our best – Ryan Kent, James Tavernier and John Lundstram.

What we’re saying is while we aren’t sure exactly what we’re getting this summer in terms of new recruits, what we already have is not half bad either, and has proven itself at the highest levels already.

Far from us justifying not getting new players, because we do need them, the squad we currently have is exceptionally good and has scorching quality throughout.

It got to the Europa League final and only just fell short in the league. It also finally cracked our cup hoodoo.

It’s not all that bad on paper at all, nor on the pitch.

And it’s got a very decent manager pulling the strings behind it as well.

We’re in a better place on the pitch than maybe some realise.

  1. That is why my targets would be a class goalie , dominant centre half and prolific goalscorer .This could still cost 15-25 milion for RIGHT players .
Agree we have a good squad IF they all stay ,if some leave well then they need replaced as well as positions mentioned IMO .
