Rangers have been reported to have had scouts at the recent international between Israel and Iceland to monitor the performance of Real Valladolid’s Shon Weissman.
The Israeli striker, 26, is now a LaLiga player after Valladolid secured promotion at the end of last season, and his stock is pretty strong having bagged 20 goals and 3 assists in 38 appearances in one of the strongest second tier leagues in the world.
His career numbers are also good, 71 goals in 139 appearances, over one in two, which is an excellent record.
The one thing missing from his CV is credibility at the top level, because all his numbers are posted in either lesser top division, like Austria, or aforementioned Spain LaLiga2.
That said, he did make it to the UEL in 2019 with Wolfsberger and managed two goals in his 6 group appearances.
It’s not world class, it’s not sensational, but he’s good enough to be an international with 20 caps. His goal return, however, isn’t anything to write home about with 2 goals.
He has a value of around £5M on a deal which has two years to run, but Rangers are clearly impressed with his league record which saw a spectacular 30 in 31 in Austria’s Bundesliga three seasons ago.
He evidently knows where the goal is, but we do doubt the chances of luring him to Scotland when he now has LaLiga to look forward to.
Second only to the PL for being the Promised Land, the Spanish top flight is still heavily lucrative and its stock took a boost with Real Madrid’s UCL win.
Can we lure him to Ibrox?
Time will tell.
