Rangers’ first signing of the summer arrives as things get serious
He told a fib or two back then.....

Rangers have confirmed and announced the first signing of the summer, as John Souttar arrives in Govan to begin life as a Ger.

The defender, an apparent replacement for seemingly-departed Connor Goldson, impressed most opposition fans at Hampden with a strong performance for his former side Hearts, in what was deemed as a pseudo ‘audition’ to let Rangers fans see what they were getting.

And the 25-year old showed good positioning, strength, awareness and composure as he limited the damage Rangers did, until the whole team fell short in extra time.

And that power will be welcome at the back with his replacing a very different style in the outgoing Goldson.

We’ll talk about the exit of Goldson once it’s confirmed, but Souttar is a very different defender – less about composure on the ball, more about power and positioning – he’s far more old school than Goldson, who is very much the modern ball playing CB.

We do look forward to him in action, and it shakes up defence a lot.

It’s the first signing of the summer, and we look forward to more.

  1. I honestly think, injury free this lad could be a Rangers Great. He will hopefully grow and learn from GVB and his Coaches about distributions and timings. Onwards 56.

  2. He had a great game against us in the cup, hopefully he can keep this up in blue
