It has been confirmed that assuming Danish side FC Midtjylland overcome either Fenerbahçe or AEK Larnaca, Rangers now know the four sides they will be drawn against in the third round of Champions League qualifiers.

They are:

Monaco, FC Midtjylland, Sturm Graz, or Union Saint-Gilloise.

Obviously the one we’d ‘want to avoid’ is Monaco, the French giants’ renaissance coming closer with a fine third-placed finish in Ligue 1, but the reality is Rangers won’t fear any of those four sides.

Should we make it through, PSV and Kiev are the two opponents we’d be drawn against in the playoff round to get to the group stage.

No walkovers of course, but Rangers have beaten better teams than any of these in Europe in recent seasons, with German giants Leipzig and Dortmund among those falling to the Famous, so we will go into these qualifiers with confidence.

UEFA’s ruling re: Russian sides has also changed the picture totally – Rangers were ready to go into the second round as an unseeded side, giving us only a slim chance of qualification, but now as a seeded side the path is easier, and shorter.

But… now we know what lies ahead.
