Rangers’ Robby McCrorie has defied his club position to earn a call up over fan-favourite Jon McLaughlin after he was picked for Scotland’s Nation’s League match v Ireland.

The 24-year old stopper finds himself at a career crossroads, requiring first team minutes at a pivotal point, but with the goalkeeping situation a little uncertain at Ibrox, has been called up to the national team AHEAD of McLaughlin who so many Rangers fans wish between the club’s sticks permanently.

McCrorie has impressed on his few cameos, particularly a massive display v Celtic, and it had been thought he’d kick on from there, but it hasn’t quite happened yet and the twin brother of former Ger Ross has had to be very patient.

Is next season his chance to shine?

Time will tell, but McLaughlin signed a new 2-year deal earlier this year to take him to 2024 and common wisdom and media reports claim he will be the main pick for number one next term.

McCrorie, however, got the call for the NT, and is very well thought of both on a national level and club, so many there are domestic chances coming up for him too.

At the moment, the experience with Steve Clarke’s side will be invaluable to his development.

  1. Love to see him be given a chance. Shagger believes he’s got a great future so that’s enough for me.
