Rangers have definitely ‘missed out’ on Holland’s Danilho Doehki after it was officially confirmed the Vitesse stopper has joined German side Union Berlin in a curious choice.

The Dutch defender, 23, was said to be interesting Giovanni van Bronckhorst on a pre contract, with the Arnhem man admitting Rangers were on his radar and that the club was following him.

But it’s been officially confirmed now that Doehki is off to Berlin, in yet another case of a long-term target not choosing Rangers in the end, following Andreas Skov Olsen moving to Brugges.

With the signing John Souttar, retention of Connor Goldson and the possible new deal for partner Calvin Bassey, this blow is a little less intense than it might have been formerly, but end of the day Leon Balogun and Filip Helander remain unreliable fitness-wise and Niko Katic’s future at the club, having returned from Croatia, remains uncertain.

As things stand, Rangers have a definite three alpha centre backs for the defence, plus the Nigerian, Croat and Swede.

Losing out on Doekhi?

Not the end of the world.
