It’s no surprise at all that Serie A sides are looking at Calvin Bassey, as testified by former Ger Sergio Porrini.

We already know of Bayern, Villa, Leipzig, Chelsea, and Dortmund to name just five that have been linked with him, but in the past week or so it has gone a bit quiet on the Bassey front, other than the news out of Ibrox that the club are seeking to tie him down to a new deal.

There was a huge flurry of interest in him when Sky Sports reported that the player was open to talks with Steven Gerrard’s side, and that Rangers were not accepting less than £25M, but that has definitely quietened down more recently.

The news today that Italian sides are interested isn’t particularly shocking, but it could also point to an attempt to reignite the flames around his value and the sides said to be looking at him.

Do Rangers want to sell him?

Not actively, hence a potential new deal, but are open to selling a big player to help fund some new recruits this summer – there is a definite feeling of striking while the iron is hot in Bassey’s case, and right now it is positive searing.

Interest in Stoke’s Josh Tymon’s does hint at fluidity in defence, but equally, Bassey was an effective ever present under Gio so we’re sure the manager is pretty keen to keep him.

  1. I will believe it when its confirmed we have sold him and indeed it is 30 million ,until then i would very much like this young chap to be pulling on the blue jersey next year …it is a win win ,sold for loads of cash or perfroming for the boys in blue .

  2. Just let the guy get on with building his career…few good games and he’s off to the top clubs in Europe.
£25M Fee for a defender who is known for mistakes against Spfl teams, especially celtic where he was found wanting in not one but three games against them.
Played well in two Cup finals, but teams will look at his overall performance for season, so as I say let the guy get on with building his career…not ready for that sort off move yet.
