Colombian striker Mateo Cassierra is eager to join Rangers, issuing a come and get me plea, as the 25-year bids to escape Russia amid the current conflict.
The former Ajax hitman, who has 20 goals and assists in 22 league appearances this season (impressive) spoke of his time in Holland and how Rangers boss GVB will know him very well:
“I hope within the next week or so, my future will be confirmed and I will sign for a club who are good for me. My priority is to stay in Europe because I have been here for five years now. The manager of Rangers knows me because when I was at Ajax, he was the manager of Feyenoord. So there are options for me that need to be evaluated.”
He clearly wants the move to Rangers, and in the last year of his contract his reputed market value of around £4M would be half that if even, so it wouldn’t be a costly signature.
Is he one our manager would be interested in?
Rangers are desperately thin up top – Alfredo Morelos will be a fresh returning striker in pre-season, but other than him, that is basically all Rangers have as pure hitmen go.
Cassierra? His career record is pretty good in reality, he’s always scored wherever he’s been, including Holland, Russia and Portugal – these are all highly respected leagues and doing well in these is coveted.
Could Rangers make a move? It’s true Gio will know him, it’s whether he rates him, and that’s down to the manager alone.
