UEFA ‘announces’ Goldson number one in the Europa League

Connor Goldson has been confirmed as the number one defender in this season’s Europa League, after UEFA announced yet another stat the English stopper tops.

After Ibrox Noise’s Derek explained Goldson is among the highest points scorers in the whole competition, at 1200, UEFA then cemented that by confirming Goldson has recovered the ball more than any other defender, by a distance, at 92 compared to Frankfurt’s Evan N’Dicka at 75.

West Ham’s Declan Rice was 5th, which rather makes a mockery of the ‘SPL English players aren’t good enough to play for the national team’ notion, but that’s another story.

As we’ve shown you, Goldson has been top of Europa League stats most of the season, among the top 10 for clearances for starters, but UEFA themselves announcing it does show Goldson’s shown absolutely his best form as a Rangers player in this tournament.

We admit it, we’ve been extremely harsh on him and his performances this season, but you can’t argue with the facts.

Goldson is, roughly speaking, the best defender by performances and stats in this season’s Europa League.

Extraordinary.

  1. I have been a Goldson fan all along.
Nobody is perfect but his performances as the principal defender, together with McGregor, in a period when we have played with attacking full backs has been first class. Why is he and Tavernier virtually undropable? Because they are so good. I hope he extends his contract as he and Souter should make a great partnership.

  2. Keep it up for the next 4 games and alls good can do the toes ( if he still wishes) with his head held high and we’re all in dreamland 🇬🇧🔴⚪🔵
