Two new contracts as Gio & Rangers prep for next season

We have to admit we were absolutely delighted at the news for both Scott Arfield and Alex Lowry, after both their agents rightly used other clubs to get a new deal for their clients.

Ibrox Noise was strongly in favour of new contracts for both of them, Arfield in particular, but nothing was really happening, which we believe led to both players’ agents using other club names to garner interest in their client.

Arfield was linked with a shock move to Turkey, and the MLS, while Lowry was linked to moneybags Newcastle.

Neither story was plausible, but it was clever work from the agents to ensure Rangers got in line and gave their men the respective deals.

It’s also very canny work from Rangers to sign up the opposite end of the bluenose spectrum on pretty much the same day – two Rangers men, one of whom is approaching the twilight of his career, and another whose life in Govan is barely just starting, signed together in a rather poetic piece of opposites.

It maybe took too long particularly in Scotty’s case, but he’s got another year with the Famous at least and we’ll see if it goes beyond that.

As for Lowry, we expect a lot more minutes from him next season.

Congratulations both men.
