St Mirren and Motherwell have been linked with making a move for Steven Davis if the veteran NI international isn’t offered a new deal at Ibrox, sources say.

After an indifferent season of being in and out of the team through injury, it’s become fairly clear the boyhood Rangers fan isn’t a first choice any longer, and finds himself behind the likes of John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara in the pecking order.

As such, we’re just not sure if he’ll be offered a new deal – there is no point giving him a coaching role, because Gio has his setup established and there’s no point making someone a coach for the sake of employment.

It certainly didn’t work with Jermain Defoe and we don’t just want to be a charity for players at the ends of their careers.

So we’d certainly like to see him continue playing if he feels up to it, and St Mirren and Motherwell are among those interested in bringing him in for that purpose.

He’s been a great servant to the club, and his honour in 2012 will never be forgotten.

Whatever he does next, be it at Ibrox or elsewhere, he will have our support.
