We really have to laugh. The Scottish press are going ballistic for Stavros, the new darling of our media, essentially portraying the man as a demigod.
Now let’s bear in mind he’s already spent £25M over the course of 5 months, and had an entire pre-season as well.
Despite all this, his side embarrassed Scotland by crashing out of a world record three European tournaments, and tumbled out of the Scottish cup by Rangers.
But because he had a blank chequebook, and an entire summer to prepare and plan, he’s a genius?
Meanwhile, Giovanni van Bronkhorst, with nary a penny, has got to the two finals he could have, creating miracles in the Europa League, and he only got the job midseason with a squad that was completely on the floor having been at best very, very patchy domestically.
In every. Single. Way. Giovanni has improved Rangers, even domestically – a better league win rate than Gerrard had this season. And he’s performed wonders everywhere else.
And yet it’s Angie the darling?
All because he gives the press something to chew on with juicy quotes.
When you have a blank chequebook it’s not hard to be successful. We’ll be honest, most of Dick Advocaat’s success was because he had so much money. It’s no different for Angie. Easy when you’re up against someone without any.
And yet, all Stavros does is take digs at Rangers – all those backhanded compliments about how well we’ve done to get to the UEL, ‘just highlights how great we’ve been to beat them to the title’.
Yeah, easy when you spend close to £30M on Squid Game mate.
So congratulations to Celtic on buying a title, fair does.
Rangers got a UEL final. We know fine well which one we’d have taken.
