Rangers have been given a huge boost for Thursday with the news Kemar Roofe’s recovery is going to plan and Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s prediction is coming true.

Rangers’ boss said 10+ days ago that Roofe was hopeful of being fit again for the Leipzig home leg, and that now looks to be coming true with reports the Jamaica star has made a strong recovery and is 80-90% likely to be ready for the Germans.

It certainly is a big help, because with all due respect to him, Scott Wright isn’t up to it and most have doubts about Fashion Sakala as well.

Roofe, however, is proven at this level, and was a big miss in the first leg, his movement, pace and finishing an absence for sure.

It means Gio will likely have Kent, Aribo, Arfield and Roofe to choose from up top – sure, it still misses Alfie, and that will be the case till next season, but it’s better to have these seasoned pros who are extremely well-versed in European football than to rely on the likes of Sakala and Wright who haven’t the game to handle football of that level.

Rangers still lack some big names, but the likely return of Roofe is a huge fillip.
