It has been confirmed veteran trio Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Leon Balogun will all this week find out their futures when talks with their representatives and the clubs begin over the paths forward for the three.

Connor Goldson, also out of contract, will not be speaking to the club and seeks options down south.

But for the other three, it’s up in the air at present.

McGregor has confirmed retirement is not yet decided, and he wants to talk to his family first to see how they all feel – it’s clear the goalie doesn’t quite feel the end is inevitable, and there’s a small chance he could defy the years and sign another deal. As Gio said, that one is down to the stopper alone.

Balogun has confirmed he wants to stay, and if the club do open talks with him, it is very likely the big Nigerian will put pen to paper on another year in Govan. If we can keep him fit, this is a deal we’re happy with, but we’ve never been able to so it’s a risk.

And Davo also wants to stay, but Rangers are hardly struggling for options in midfield, so that one is definitely a curiosity. He also missed much of the season through injury and is no longer a first pick.

Sentimentally, we’d like to keep all three of these champions, they all love the club and they give their all. But we have to be realistic too, and keeping all three might not be practical.

We’ll just have to see how the talks go…

  1. I’m abit gutted goldson is going to walk but mainly because he is so available to plsy every game that is going to be near impossible to replace look th th rest of uor cbs they breakdown every few months and tht unsettles the defence if big bassey leaves as well thn we have a mega rebuild at th back to sort out b4 we deal with the lack of good strikers that we seemed to have had for th last 10 years.. We need some real quality this summer but how long have we been asking for that if not play th kids coming up through th academy even a blind man can see some of thm deserve a run in th first team age means nothing if u have th skill and it would be more effective than bringing in more sakala and itten types to th club… Watp
