It appears Alex Lowry’s agent Des McKeown has played a blinder with his client after reports suggested the 18-year old rising star of Rangers will get a 3-year extension.

After craftily bringing moneybags Newcastle into the equation and leaking the initial £5,000 pw contractual offer into the press, McKeown it seems has worked a much better deal for his client now and Lowry could be about to sign a major contract to take him to the age of 21.

The attacking midfielder has been the big new breaking talent of Auchenhowie, but reports he was being offered ‘just’ £20,000 a month given his talent seemed to undermine his worth to the club, so it wasn’t long before Newcastle showed up as a rival bidder.

Whether we believed those links or not (we didn’t, in truth) nevertheless Lowry should be a better earner than just £5,000 and it seems now he is set, at just 18, for long-term security with a lucrative new deal for the next 36 months.

He could be a major player for this club and this news is a sign he may just play a significant role next season, especially if rumours of Joe Aribo’s sale are true.

We’ll have more as it breaks.
