Is 56 gone? Post Mortem of Old Firm loss

With yet another bad Old Firm Rangers are 6 points behind, and it’s safe to say it’s Celtic’s title to lose now.

Which is far from impossible because they’ve hardly been completely consistent themselves this season.

But it’s clear from the last two matchups that Celtic are at present a far superior domestic animal to Rangers, even if the European versions are the other way around.

Our previous manager build this squad for Europe, and Gio has been able to take that further, but it’s evident that we’re unable to fight on more than one serious front.

Make no mistake, we’re a genuine contender for the UEL, we’re in the quarters and that wasn’t a fluke.

But all season, under SG or Gio, we’ve been unable to consistently replicate that level on terra firma and the form which took us up to March last year on the home front has been AWOL since then.

It’s been simply too inconsistent in the league since we won the title, and while Gio is a more flexible thinker than Steven Gerrard was, he lacks the charisma which made, during 55 at least, the players run through walls for him.

He also, this year, lacks a lot of Alfredo Morelos. The hitman makes a colossal difference to the way Rangers play, and it’s hurt not having him the last two Old Firms. Rangers have been unable to even find a decent deputy and that’s an issue.

Is 56 now gone?

It’s an uphill task. There’s one Old Firm left and Celtic are quite capable of losing and drawing to give us a one point lead if we can beat them during the split.

But it’s miles out of our hands now and our optimism isn’t as keen as it was.

Gio has a big task now to find a way back into 56.

Because there’s a growing swell asking for his head, even if they gave SG two years of slack.

Over to you Giovanni.

  1. Save your money its finished for this season folks
We threw it away, gifted to the snp
    Utter dross

  2. That idiot Willie Colon just underlined how useless the officils are in Scotland.

In Europe 3 Celtic players with yellow cards in the first half for sure. Followed by a clear penalty for hand ball in the seconf half. A joke of a country and pub league officials are better.

  3. I guess we’re pretty much toast now: six points behind, an inferior goal difference, the pressure that we can’t afford to drop a single point and the additional encumbrance of at least two more EL games. Celtic are masters of their own destiny, and I can’t see them drop that many points in those last six games and let the title slip. We gave away too many points in January, didn’t turn up for the OF game in February and offered so very little today apart from a promising first five minutes. Let’s focus on Europe and the Cup, with the Cup being the most likely trophy we’ll lift this season. But we need to up our game sharpish.

  4. Think of the money we just lost, how depressing. If only we had another striker to rely on would have made a big difference to our season. Not gd enough to rely on one guy. I cant see us winning anything now if Morelos stays injured.

  5. We have no real money to spend as was clear in the January Transfer . Ramsay and Diallo poor sticking plasters to appease the fans. Failed Miserably . Too many members of Gerrard squad are not strong enough for Scottish shitty football. The club is not bankrupt but its close. No CL money will widen the gap from us and the rotten mob. It seems we are destined to just pay fines from the UEFA and the SPFL. We need proper investment, from a proper sustainable source.
