We’re going to be blunt – we spoke some days ago about how critical Alfredo Morelos was to Sunday, and were surprised to see derision of this view and ‘not a one-man team’ type replies greeting us.

We stand by it – Morelos is a titanic talisman, and Rangers are significantly weaker when he doesn’t play, especially against Celtic.

His holdup, movement, bullying, pace and team play as well as foul-winning are absolutely key to Rangers’ system when up against the better sides, and it’s no coincidence that he wasn’t there for the last Old Firm clash in which the visitors dearly struggled.

Can we win without him? We’re in a decent stretch of form, but he’s BEEN there for it. Remove him and we lose a major component of our success in recent times. And with Celtic coming, they’ll be a lot tougher than Ross County.

We don’t only win with Morelos, that is absolutely true, and it would be nonsense to say we can’t win without him.

But he is a huge aspect of our team, the way we’ve played since the days of Gerrard as manager, that not having him leaves a big void because we just don’t have another target man.

Some fans arguing Kemar Roofe will be a perfectly solid replacement, but he’s a very different player – he can’t hold the ball up, can’t win it in the air, and won’t bully defenders.

It means we’ll really have to alter the tactics.

But then, that’s Gio’s job, isn’t it?

It’s down to our manager to find a way around the likely loss of Morelos, and find a way to overcome Celtic.

Because winning is essential.

And that’s what he’s paid the big bucks for.
