If one man is being rightly lauded for his outstanding performance yesterday night, it’s renaissance man Borna Barisic.

Absolutely and (frankly disgracefully) binned by the majority of the fanbase after an admittedly dreadful time of it at Parkhead, the Croat has been the villain of the piece for the best part of two months, taking a hit to his confidence following a tangible loss of support from the fanbase.

He became lambasted, and 99% of all fans until only a few matches ago swore on their lives that Calvin Bassey was clearly the better LB.

Borna started getting his mojo back on international duty with a vintage display v Bulgaria, and he brought it immediately back to domestic duty.

And suddenly fan opinion began to change.

Last night he was classic Borna, with absolutely dynamite delivery which played complete havoc with Braga’s backline, and they simply could not handle him and the combinations with the lively Ryan Kent.

It was recognised quickly by the fans, who began to sing the Borna song (we all know the one) and made the man feel loved again.

He knew all he had to do was get his form and mojo back and he’d be first choice again – he’s had to work for it, but a world class display v Braga gave us the Borna we’ve waited for. And makes him indispensable in that position.

Will it teach some fans not to abuse players?

Probably not. But Borna’s the toast of the fans again.

Just in time for Sunday.

  1. I thought he was amazing last night he crosses the ball so accurately and so sweetly. He could be key in getting in behind that very lucky and very dubious rotten mob defence.
