Rangers fans are increasingly decrying the decision not to sign Hearts’ John Souttar for the reported £650,000 the Tynecastle side wanted, after the defender scored last night amid Rangers’ unconvincing rearguard.

Despite the fact 90% of fans in January told Hearts to shove their demands, the subsequent month or so since the window ended have demonstrated the lad was needed, and supporters have clearly changed their minds, wishing the bill had just been footed and he was here now.

Thankfully Leon Balogun APPEARS to have come through his comeback unscathed, and the Nigerian when fit is easily the joint-best defender alongside big Filip Helander in the SPL, so the immediate need for another body isn’t quite as critical, but the poor defence since the turn of the year demonstrates Rangers should have just paid Hearts what they wanted.

In fairness, Ibrox Noise advocated doing just that, that circa £500,000 wasn’t a king’s ransom and the player was worth it to just bring in now, but most fans were disagreeable to this.

It seems February’s poor results have seen a change of heart, and while it’s an if and but, Rangers should have just forked the cash out.

Que sera sera, hindsight is 20/20…

  1. I was one who said we should tell Hearts where to go and I stand by it. Who’s to say it would’ve been any different had he come in. He’d still be playing alongside the commonly slated Connor Goldson. We’ve got many more problems than just centre back.
