Ramsey gives Rangers success another shot as Wales star takes action

You have to hand it to Aaron Ramsey, the man’s time in Scotland has been absolutely terrible, but he’s not given up playing for us and has reportedly spent close to £50,000 on his own physios to try and sort a calf issue that’s likely been plaguing him for months.

The Wales star has had a torrid time of it at Ibrox, his career picking up no more than it did in Turin, with injury and setbacks keeping him miles off the first team, but he’s being pro-active and spending his own money to try and help fix this.

There are two angles we can take on it:

1: He’s showing commitment to us and to himself, that he’s taking it seriously enough to spend serious money to find a cure. We can’t recall too many other players ever doing that, not that, of course, he is exactly short on a penny or two.

2: What is going on with Auchenhowie’s medical facilities and the doctors the club is consulting with that a player isn’t getting better, and doesn’t trust them enough to continue exclusive treatment under them?

Rangers have had quite a time with injuries in the past 5 years; the rogues gallery of permanent treatment table victims reels off numerous names, Jordan Rossiter, Graham Dorrans, Niko Kranjcar, Ryan Jack, John Eustace.

Indeed the “7-10 days” phrase has become a byword for ‘won’t be back for months’ and we are at least glad Gio just says ‘back when he’s back’.

As for Ramsey, he’s not a bad soul, and clearly wants to play for the club, but it just isn’t happening.

But it would be nice if he could manage a few appearances before going back to Italy…

  1. Ramsey has other reasons to get fit with important Wales fixtures coming up. He needs to get games in his legs. I doubt we’ll see any meaningful return from him sadly which I feared when we first signed him.
