Media attack over Rangers target misses the point
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 10: Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Head Coach of Rangers is interviewed by the media prior to the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 Leg One match between Rangers FC and Crvena Zvezda at Ibrox Stadium on March 10, 2022 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

We saw a piece not long ago about how Rangers made a huge mistake not signing now-Brugges winger Andreas Skov Olsen.

How we’d dropped the ball and made a big boo boo signing Amad Diallo on loan instead.

It’s true that Diallo is yet to impress or even play, frankly, as a Rangers player, while Skov Olsen’s stats in Belgium are exactly where we expected a £6M (that’s what he cost Brugges) winger to be – 4 goals, 5 assists in 11 matches.

No one on Ibrox Noise was ever in any doubt how good this guy is, the only one who reckoned he was cow dung was Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic.

But the part these sites and outlets forget is that at the end of the day, Rangers made no mistake at all. Skov Olsen was our number one RW target.

But he CHOSE Brugges.

He went with the Belgian Juliper Pro and that was up to him – he thought that was the better move, and despite Scotland’s rise up the coefficient lately, it is hard to make a case for the quality of our Premiership.

But end of the day, it was his call – Rangers’ bid wasn’t seemed up his alley and he plumped for the continentals.

So let’s not use a player’s choice as an attack on our club, thank you.

No, we didn’t make an error on ASO. He made an error, in our opinion, not coming to Ibrox.

  1. We could’ve offered him the earth and he still might not have come if he, understandingly, doesn’t fancy the SPFL. Let’s face it there are many more better places to play your football. It also shows the importance of having a Gerrard or Van Bronckhorst to attract those that we do get.

  2. Diallo seems to get away with his low contribution to the team. I even forgot abt him until i read this. He was suppose to be this 40m young superstar winger. Ramsey gets slated for his performances, i agree hes not been great but at least he can say hes building fitness. Diallo has been a poor signing full stop, we’d have been better playing one of our own youth.
